Txakoli (pronounced [cha-ko-lee] or Chacolí ) is a slightly sparkling, very dry white wine with high acidity and low alcohol content produced in the Spanish provinces of the Basque Country, Cantabria and northern Burgos. It’s made from the equally easy to say grapes of Hondarribi Zuri, Munemahatsa and Hondarribi Beltza.
Pintxos (pronounced peen-chos) are little snacks or tapas that are typically eaten while drinking at bars in the Basque region. Pintxo, also meaning “spike”, refers to how these tapas are usually served on bread and spiked with a toothpick.
Porron (pronouced po-ron) is a traditional glass wine pitcher, typical of Catalonia, Aragon and the Valencian Country, originating in Catalonia and eventually spreading to other parts of Spain. This invention allows everyone to drink from the same utensil without touching it with their lips. It fosters communal drinking accompanying food, though it does require some skill to ensure the wine enters one's mouth and to keep it from spilling onto clothing. Some might say it resembles a cross between a wine bottle and a watering can.
